In the period 22-28 January 2007 there will take place in Warsaw the European Figure Skating Championships. On this occasion Polish Post issuing a post stamp presenting the silhouettes of couples of figure skaters in floodlights, designed in spare and elegant colors.
The tradition of figure skating competitions dates back to the second half of the 19th century, and has since 1908 become an Olympic discipline. The International Skating Union committed the organization of this year’s championships to the Polish Figure Skating Association. A similar event took place in Warsaw 99 years ago, and was one of the first European championships. In this year’s event there will participate the representatives of 35 European states. Individual skaters, dance and sports couples will be competing.
The stamp that we present will be accompanied by a First Day of Circulation envelope cancelled with a commemorative stamp used in Pots Office Warszawa 1.
